Online order form annoys Girl Scouts

A North Carolina Web designer angered the Girl Scouts when he set up an online order form for his daughter's cookie sales.

The YouTube cookie pitch for 8-year-old Wild Freeborn does not include mail order, the Asheville Citizen reported. Brian Freeborn advertises for sales that he and his daughter can deliver in person.

The Girl Scouts of Western North Carolina Pisgah Council, however, said that even the order form violates policy. Susie Mamola, the membership and marketing director, said that online sales could be risky for young girls, could lead to cookie wars with other councils and could be unfair to scouts who do not have Internet access.

I think there is some misinformation going around about all this, Mamola said. Our council has not asked him to take down anything other than the order form from their Web site, simply because we have to comply with national guidelines.

Wild's ambition is to sell 12,000 boxes of cookies, and her father set up the order form when she realized that going door to door and other traditional methods would not get her there.
