Swedish papers celebrate April Fools’ Day
April Fools’ Day jokes in Swedish media this year included hoax news stories on royal weddings, wind turbines and dog poo DNA.
Northern newspaper Sundsvall Tidning reported an April Fools’ story Wednesday that warned that authorities in England are beginning a program to track unscooped doggie doo to its owner using DNA testing on the droppings, The Local reported Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Uppsala Nya Tidning reported a hoax claiming the June wedding between Sweden’s Crown Princess Victoria and Daniel Westling would be moved to Uppsala Cathedral after authorities determined that Stockholm’s Storkyrka isn’t large enough for the wedding party.
Dalarnas Tidningar published faux-Danish research that claimed wind turbines make the Earth spin more slowly, causing longer days and necessitating a review of the system of hours and minutes.
