An Oklahoma restaurant owner's April Fools' prank on a friend led to police arriving at her place of business to investigate a bogus shooting.
Samantha Foytlin, owner of Bob's Fish and Seafood in Oklahoma City, said she and employee Sherry Hickey arrived for work Wednesday, April Fools' Day, and felt like marking the day with a trick, The Oklahoman reported Thursday.
The pair said they called Hickey's daughter, who also works at the restaurant, and told her their made-up story.
We called my daughter, and told her that I shot my husband and he was in the back of the store bleeding,
Hickey said.
They said the prank escalated after they called a friend of Foytlin's husband and told him the same story. The women said they called the man back to tell him that the call was a joke, but he had already called police.
They were pretty upset when they got here,
Foytlin said. I think they were really mad because we were still laughing about it, but we told them we didn't call 911. It was just a prank call, but it wasn't supposed to be a prank on police.
Police spokeswoman Sgt. Jennifer Wardlow said officers were unable to ticket the pair because the friend had contacted police by dialing 211 instead of 911.
