Fishing outing ends with alligator catch
A 14-year-old boy in Akron, Ohio, says he caught an alligator while fishing at Summit Lake.
The Akron (Ohio) Beacon Journal said while Anthony Greer may have been fishing for more traditional aquatic fare at Summit Lake Sunday, the teen ended up with an alligator that measured more than four feet in length.
The eighth-grader said he was forced to kill the reptile when it suddenly attacked him.
”His mouth opened up. He would have bit me,” Greer told the Beacon Journal. ”I had to hit him (on the head) with a brick.”
Pete Mohan, the manager of living collections at the Akron Zoo, said the gator could have been poached or stolen, suggesting a pet shop or an alligator farm as a possible point of origin.
Whatever the case, Greer is excited at what he will do with his unexpected catch.
”I want to get this thing stuffed,” the teen said. ”I didn’t plan on catching an alligator.”
