Car thief identified via phone picture
Police in Houston say they may have a photograph of the man who stole a car thanks to the suspect accidentally leaving his cell phone in the stolen vehicle.
Police investigators said the unidentified suspect stole a car from a 27-year-old man last October, but was forced to ditch the vehicle after crashing during an ensuing police chase, the Houston Chronicle said Wednesday.
A search of the car uncovered a cell phone that had a photograph of a man in its memory, police said. Investigators showed the photo to the victim of the car theft, who identified the individual as his assailant.
Police are seeking the suspect, described as a 5-foot-8, black and weighing nearly 150 pounds.
The Chronicle said anyone with tips that help police charge, identify or arrest the suspect will receive a reward of as much as $5,000 from Crime Stoppers.
