$302,875 seized at U.S. border

U.S. Customs and Border Protection said agents in Laredo, Texas, seized $302,875 hidden in detergent boxes at a border crossing, officials said.

The agency said a 28-year-old Mexican man driving a Chevrolet Suburban across the Lincoln-Juarez international bridge was pulled over by agents Saturday and a Border Patrol dog prompted a search of the man's grocery bags, the San Antonio Express-News reported Wednesday.

Officers said the $302,875 in undeclared U.S. currency was found hidden in three laundry detergent boxes. Federal law states that cash amounts greater than $10,000 must be declared when entering or leaving the United States.

Customs and Border Protection said the investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made.
