Prom features shot glasses as favors

May 11, 2009

Students who attended a high school prom in Pennsylvania received commemorative shot glasses, a move administrators say was a poor decision.

Juniors and seniors at Warwick High School in Lititz, Pa., got the shot glasses rather than a picture frame given to the girls and a money clip given to the boys, as was done last year, WGAL-TV of Lancaster, Pa., reported Monday.

Unfortunately, this year the junior class didn’t have quite as much money, said Assistant Principal Scott Galen.

The school ordered the glasses from a prom favor Web site. School officials said the shot glasses fit the students’ budget.

It was a poor choice, poor decision, said Scott Galen, assistant principal at Warwick High. It’s certainly not the message we were trying to send.

Senior class President Phoebe Baum said the decision to go with shot glasses was probably just hasty.

I think a lot of times decisions get made and lots of things are happening at once and it wasn’t like, ‘Let’s all sit down and decide to have a shot glass,’ said Baum. It’s like, ‘OK, this is what we have money for. Let’s just do it.’
