Buying clothes too small incentive to diet

More than a third of British women interviewed for a survey said they bought clothes too small as an incentive to lose weight.

If slipping into a little black dress or a smaller jean size is something someone finds motivating, then buying an under-size garment could be a very sensible investment, Christine Evans, a spokeswoman for Lloyd’s Pharmacies, which commissioned the survey, said in a news release on the company’s Web site.

Lloyds has dubbed too-small garments CARROTS for Clothes Acquired Rashly, Requiring Owners To Slim.

Of those interviewed in Britain, Scottish women said they owned the most carrots, while women in London said they owned the fewest.

Men aren’t immune to the practice either. The survey found 12 percent of British men buy clothes too small to wear without losing weight.

Details of the survey’s methodology were not provided.
