Times Square beach chairs taken

New York's Times Square Alliance said several people walked off with the free beach chairs supplied to celebrate the freeing of the square from traffic.

The chairs were put out Monday as part of the festivities surrounding the closing of Broadway's Times and Herald squares to traffic in an attempt by city officials to ease congestion and reduce collisions, the New York Post reported Tuesday.

The Times Square Alliance put out neon beach chairs for sunbathers and those gathered to watch a free outdoor showing of the film On the Town Monday in the middle of Duffy Square.

I am sure some of the chairs will disappear, an alliance employee said. You'll be at the beach this summer, and you'll think, 'I recognize that chair.'
