Man locked in cafe bathroom overnight
Employees at a Massachusetts cafe said a man who made a run for a bathroom wound up spending more time there than intended when he was locked in overnight.
Laura Walton, manager of the Gulu-Gulu Cafe in Salem, said staff arrived for work at 8 a.m. Saturday and called police after hearing sounds that they thought were someone trying to break in to the business, The Salem News reported Wednesday.
However, Patrolman Kevin Gillan arrived and discovered not someone trying to break in, but rather a man who was trying to get out.
Walton said the man apparently went into the restroom shortly before the business closed at 1 a.m. and was accidentally locked inside.
He was very apologetic and he wanted to pay his tab and leave, Walton said.
We don’t really know what happened because he left so quickly.
Police said there was no property damage caused by the man’s banging on the walls for help and he said he was
comfortable during the night. A cafe employee said police told staff to ensure the bathrooms are empty before closing in the future.
