Ohio 8-year-old lands 53.5-pound carp

Posted on: Wednesday, 17 June 2009, 16:10 CDT

An Ohio 8-year-old who went out fishing with his dad landed a 53.5-pound carp, a fish that experts said may be the largest of its type ever caught in Ohio.

Josh Cobb, who weighs in at 66 pounds, said his dad let him reel the mammoth fish in all by himself at the Newton gravel pit so there would be no doubt that the catch was his, WKRC-TV, Cincinnati, reported Wednesday.

The fish was weighed on a certified scale at Bethel Feed and Supply and the Game Warden has been contacted about certifying the catch an Ohio record. The current record holder is a 50-pound fish landed in 1967.

Josh Cobb said the tricks to fishing are to find the right holes where fish like to hide and choosing the proper bait -- Josh recommends leeches and hot dogs.
