Police seize barking dog

Posted on: Friday, 10 July 2009, 12:54 CDT

Police in New Hampshire said they temporarily seized a barking dog that was the subject of complaints from neighbors while its owner was away.

Epping Police Sgt. Jason Newman said the dog was taken to the New Hampshire Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals after police received complaints from neighbors about the canine barking outside and officers were unable to locate its owner, Lorraine Neal, the Manchester (N.H.) Union Leader reported Friday.

Newman said the dog was released into Neal's custody after she returned home.

Neal was cited for the dog's barking and will have to appear in court to determine whether a fine will be levied.

Typically if the folks were home, we'd just ask them to control the dog and keep it inside, Newman said. It's rare that a dog would just be outside barking and being a nuisance when the owner isn't home.
