Thieves target Kmart buffers

Police in Virginia said a gang of thieves have victimized at least five Kmart stores by posing as cleaning crews.

Virginia Beach police said surveillance camera footage from the Kmart stores in Virginia Beach and Chesapeake depict a dark colored van approaching the stores with at least two people inside, WAVY-TV, Portsmouth, Va., reported Tuesday.

Police said one of the thieves would exit the vehicle and push an old red floor buffer into the store and leave after switching the buffer out for a newer model from the store.

Obviously they pretended like they knew what they were doing, police spokesman Adam Bernstein said. They knew where the items were located. They went right into the store directly to where the buffers were, switched them out and walked right out.

Investigators said the footage depicts the man walking past numerous store employees and customers who appear not to recognize anything out of the ordinary.
