Memphis Zoo welcoming grizzly bear cubs
The curator of the Memphis Zoo says three orphaned grizzly bear cubs are due to arrive soon.
Curator Matt Thompson said the cubs, whose mother was killed by a hiker in Montana, will be housed at the zoo’s new $16 million Teton Trek exhibit once they arrive, the Memphis Commercial Appeal said Wednesday.
Thompson said the cubs are currently being housed in the Zoo Montana in Billings, Mont., in the wake of last Sunday’s northern Montana shooting.
They have graciously agreed to hold them for us for a few days until we can get them here, Thompson said.
Thompson, who expects the cubs to arrive in Memphis as early as Sunday, told the Commercial Appeal the young animals should enjoy a peaceful existence in the new exhibit after they are spayed and neutered.
They will be the stars of Teton Trek, the zoo curator said.
