Couple honored for rescuing baby
Police in suburban Chicago have bestowed honors on a couple who rescued a 5-pound infant found abandoned on the edge of their property.
Joe Logan of Wheaton and his wife, Margie, were given a Citizen Commendation by Wheaton police Thursday for discovering the baby boy June 12, bringing it inside and contacting authorities, the Chicago Sun-Times reported Friday.
I’m proud and blessed I was there, Joe Logan said after receiving his award.
The Logans’ 8-year-old dog, Red, was also commended as an honorary police K-9 by drawing her owners to the baby by barking at the bush where the infant had been abandoned.
Nunu Sung, 24, of Wheaton, was arrested for allegedly abandoning the infant two hours before the Logans discovered it. She was charged with child endangerment and obstruction of justice.
Authorities said the baby has since been placed in foster care.
