Denver shrugs off 'non-resort' designation

Posted on: Friday, 24 July 2009, 15:22 CDT

Denver tourism officials said the federal government's designation of the city as a non-resort destination doesn't mean the Mile High City isn't fun.

Visit Denver president Richard Scharf said that while The Wall Street Journal quoted government agencies including the FBI and Department of Agriculture as including Denver on a list of cities that aren't seen as vacation destinations, it isn't necessarily an insult to the city.

It says 'not a resort,' Scharf told the Denver Post. It doesn't say 'not fun.'

Scharf said Denver has a lot to offer visitors, including professional sports teams, fine restaurants, outdoor recreation and a cultural renaissance in the city's art scene.

We're an attraction but not a distraction, he said.
