$30,000 ring still unclaimed
A diamond ring found on a school playground in Southern California remains unclaimed after four months, officials say.
Sgt. Mike MacDonald of the Fullerton Police Department said the city is getting legal advice on how to dispose of the 2.5-carat ring, The Orange County Register reported Saturday. Normally, lost property belongs to the finder if the owner does not appear within four months.
We’re planning to send a letter to the finder, but first we want to check with the city attorney to determine who should get the ring, the finder or the property owner, MacDonald said.
The ring is locked in a safe with other jewelry in the police property room. April Baughman, who is in charge, said the ring has at least one feature police can use to make sure anyone who claims the ring is legitimate.
