The Wisconsin secretary of state said he was disgusted
to find his former campaign Web site, which was sold to save money, is now home to pornography.
Secretary of State Doug LaFollette, 69, said his campaign stopped paying the monthly $25 fee to maintain rights to the site's domain name, assuming it would be available when election time came back around, but someone from St. Petersburg, Russia, swooped in and purchased the domain after the payments ceased, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported Monday.
It's very obnoxious,
LaFollette said. I was disgusted to learn that anybody can do this.
Serkov Andrey, the St. Petersburg businessman with the rights to the domain name, said he has no connection with the pornographic pictures and movies being sold on the Web site.
We are not responsible for materials being advertised on our domains, and we do not provide any illegal content,
Andrey said.
He said he would be willing to sell the domain name for about $500.
LaFollette said he has not made any contact with the Web site's current owner, assuming the owner of the site bearing his name would contact him.
I've never been contacted,
he said. I don't know what to do about it.
