Resort offers $19 ‘Survivor’ reservations

A California resort says it is offering summer reservations starting at $19 a night for rooms with no beds, pillows, towels or toiletries.

San Diego's Rancho Bernardo Inn, which boasts three pools, two restaurants, a golf course and a spa, said the stripped-down Survivor Package rooms, which offer steep discounts from the usual $219 room rate, will be available from Aug. 16 through Aug. 31, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported Friday.

Resort officials said the standard $219 price lowers with each amenity guests are willing to go without, including $20 off for bringing sheets from home and a similar discount for not using the hotel's lights.

John Gates, Rancho Bernardo Inn's general manager, said the scheme is aimed at luring new customers to the resort.

It's our belief once we get families here on a 'Survivor Package,' they'll come back on a non-'Survivor Package,' he said. It's our way of getting people here that might not normally come.
