Utah low on liquor licenses

Utah authorities say the granting of liquor licenses to seven restaurants has left the state with only one liquor permit left to give out.

Sharon Mackay, spokeswoman for the Utah Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control, said the issuance of the licenses Thursday, plus four limited licenses allowing patrons to order beer and wine with meals, means the state can grant only one more full license and seven of the limited licenses, The Salt Lake Tribune reported Friday.

We're quickly running out of licenses, Mackay said. In the coming months, we're expecting to see some jockeying for the few licenses that are left.

Officials said 80 restaurants are expected to apply for full-service permits this year and 60 others are expected to apply for the beer and wine only permits.
