Site allows users to share funny texts

August 24, 2009

A pair of Michigan law students have hit the Internet big-time with a Web site allowing users to share their strange and amusing text messages.

Ben Bator, 23, of Royal Oak, and Lauren Leto, 22, of Grosse Pointe Woods, both graduates of Michigan State University attending law school at Wayne State University, said the funny texts they received from their friends led them to create their Web site, textsfromlastnight.com, the Detroit Free Press reported Monday.

Bator and Leto said they go through 10,000 to 15,000 submissions each night to decide what makes it onto the site. Senders are identified only by their area codes.

The messages on the Web site include obscene stories, bizarre confessions and existential quandaries.

So I went on a date with this girl … and who’s our waitress? My girlfriend got a second job she didn’t tell me about to afford my b(irth)day present, one entry from the 314 area code reads.

I told a kindergarten student that candy canes are bones of reject elves, says another submission, from the 334 area code.

Just met our mailman at a party. He asked me out. I said yes, but only if he picks me up in the mail truck. How jealous are you? a user from area code 203 wrote.
