Robbery suspect asks victim for date

September 9, 2009

A man suspected of a Columbus, Ohio, robbery returned to the crime scene to ask the victim for a date, police said.

Stephfon Bennett, 20, was allegedly one of three men who robbed Daniel Martinez Batista and Diana Martinez in a North Side apartment parking lot at 10:40 p.m. Saturday, police said.

The robbers, who took Batista’s wallet and Martinez’s purse, fled when neighbors threatened them, the Columbus Dispatch reported.

Less than two hours later, police said, Bennett returned to Martinez’s home to ask her for a date.

We are not exactly sure what he was thinking at the time, Columbus police Sgt. Shaun Laird told WBNS-TV, Columbus. She recognized him right away when he returned and was able to have her cousin call 911.

Within minutes, police arrived and arrested Bennett, who was being held on $100,000 bond in the Franklin County jail on a charge of aggravated robbery.

Police were looking for the two other suspects.
