Police: Alleged carjacker wanted jail
Police in Florida said a man accused of carjacking a woman at knifepoint told officers he was trying to get sent back to jail.
Deltona police said Jackie Kendrick, 40, who served a jail sentence for carjacking in 2000, jumped into the woman’s Mitsubishi Eclipse convertible while she was pulling away from a Publix store Wednesday afternoon, showed her his knife and told her to exit the vehicle, the Orlando (Fla.) Sentinel reported Thursday.
The woman called 911 from the parking lot and a Lake Helen police officer spotted the car driving with the top down a few minutes after the theft.
Kendrick was arrested and charged with armed carjacking and grand theft. Police said he told officers he had a weakness for vehicles and wanted to return to jail.
