Man downs six crabcakes in under 3 minutes
Officials with the Maryland Seafood Festival said a man ate six crab cakes in 2 minutes and 42 seconds to win an eating contest.
Walter Hughes, 38, of Port Deposit, Md., said he won the second round of the contest Sunday at Sandy Point State Park by swallowing the crab cakes — which each weigh about 3 3/4 ounces — without chewing, the Baltimore Sun reported Monday.
Michelle Torres, director of marketing for Phillips Seafood Restaurants, said Hughes was the fastest crab-cake eater she had seen in four events.
The first round of the contest, held earlier in the day, was won by Robert Hoover, 38, of Annapolis, who finished six cakes in three minutes.
Each winner received an all-they-can-eat seafood dinner for six from Phillips Seafood Restaurants.
