Police: Couple ‘playing’ led to search
New York State Police said reports of a man carrying
what appeared to be an unconscious woman toward a wooded area was just a couple
The State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation said multiple witnesses called authorities at about 5:30 p.m. Saturday to report a man carrying
what appeared to be an unconscious woman over his shoulder toward the woods lining the northbound Sagtikos State Parkway in Brentwood, Newsday reported Monday.
Multiple witnesses described the incident ... lending credence to their observations, police said.
Police said about 30 emergency responders searched the area with thermal imaging equipment until about 10 p.m. Investigators said they managed to identify the car described by witnesses and tracked down the owner, a 20-year-old man. Officers interviewed the man and his 19-year-old girlfriend.
Interviews determined, police said,
they pulled over and were 'playing around.'
Officials said no charges were filed because the pair had
no intent to cause alarm.
