A Phoenix children's museum said it is building a 37-foot tall jungle gym with ramps, stairs and play spaces from about 50 tons of steel.
The Children's Museum of Phoenix said concrete for the Schuff-Perini Climberini, which is aimed at children ages 10 and younger, was poured this month and installation of the steel beams for the structure will begin next week, The Arizona Republic reported Monday.
Museum spokeswoman Marion Wiener said designers were conscious of children with mobility challenges while creating the plans for the jungle gym.
The third level (of the museum) will have an observation deck,
she said. Even though they won't be up on the Climberini, it will make them feel like they are part of it.
Wiener said that while a large portion of the project relies on volunteers and donated materials, the total cost of the Climberini is estimated at $1.5 million and officials believe they must still raise $400,000 to complete construction.
