Cops: Man planned tow truck impound heist
Police in Pennsylvania said a man allegedly tried to steal a tow truck to retrieve his car, which had been impounded due to drunken driving charges.
Investigators said a Lower Saucon police officer stopped at Saucon Collision at about 7:40 p.m. because he spotted a man inside of a tow truck at the closed business, The (Allentown) Morning Call reported Tuesday.
The man, identified as Timothy Peare, 29, of Whitehouse Station, N.J.,
openly stated his intent to take the tow truck to the impound lot to get his vehicle back, court records stated.
The court records said Peare's car was impounded at the time of his arrest on drunken driving charges at 5 p.m. Sunday.
Peare was charged with criminal attempt to steal a vehicle, theft from a vehicle and loitering and prowling at nighttime. He was taken to the Northampton County jail in lieu of $20,000 bail.
