Siblings hope to set new marathon record
A record for the most siblings to complete a marathon may return to Oshkosh, Wis., if all of the Kaprals finish the Fox Cities race, they said Wednesday.
The 16 Kapral siblings are training for the marathon Sunday to take back the record from the O'Donaghues, who put 15 brothers and sisters in the Dublin, Ireland, Marathon. The previous record was held by the 13 Weiss siblings who ran the Fox Cities race in 2007, The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reported.
The Weiss record never made it into Guinness World Records because the Dublin race was only a month later.
Paul Weiss thought about the Kaprals, fellow students at Oshkosh Lourdes High School and used a mutual friend to get in touch with them.
Both the Weisses and the Kaprals say they have benefited by the camaraderie of training and preparing for the race, the newspaper reported. And the Kaprals hope if they all finish the race it will make the book.
I hope there are no families in Ireland with 17 siblings, said Sarah Kapral, noting the
crazy pattern going on.
