Michigan man plans produce giveaway
A Michigan potato broker says he will give away more than 90,000 pounds of fresh produce Saturday at a county fairground in northern Minnesota.
Don Armstrong, 70, selected the town of Thief River Falls for the giveaway because he grew up there, the St. Paul (Minn.) Pioneer Press reported Friday.
In addition to 43,000 pounds of potatoes, Armstrong plans to dispose of 20,000 pounds of pumpkins, 17,000 pounds of squash and 12,000 pounds of cabbage.
The giveaway will also include 1,000 colossal onions, each weighing at least a pound, and 2,500 cans of vegetables and soup.
Volunteers will be on hand to load the produce into cars and trucks.
People always ask why I’m doing this, Armstrong says.
I tell them that God and Jesus were having coffee one morning and they said, ‘Don, we want you to give away some produce.’ So, I’m doing it,
