Bedbugs found at NYC Health Department

Workers in the New York City Health Department said the citywide bedbug problem reached its offices near City Hall.

Employees in the department's tuberculosis-prevention unit said the pests have been discovered on the eighth floor of their offices on Broadway, scant blocks from City Hall, the New York Post reported Friday.

Department officials confirmed bedbugs were found in the TB unit during the past few days. They also confirmed employee reports that the insects were previously found in the offices in 2007. The officials said exterminators were called in both times.

It's fairly common to have a couple of bedbugs brought in by an individual, department spokeswoman Jessica Scaperotti said. It's not an infestation.
