Man eats 11 corny dogs in 10 minutes
A State Fair of Texas visitor won his third consecutive title by eating 11 Fletcher’s corny dogs in 10 minutes at the event’s annual eating contest.
Michael Wilkes, 48, of Krum, Texas, won the seventh annual World Championship Corny Dog Eating Competition by downing one more dog than the three second-place finishers Sunday, The Dallas Morning News reported Monday.
Wilkes, who won the contest by eating 12 dogs in 10 minutes during the previous two years, said the 90-degree heat Sunday prevented him from matching his personal best. The all-time record for the event, 18 corny dogs in 10 minutes, was set in 2005.
The champion said he prepared for the event by not eating prior to the 1 p.m. contest, as well as his years of practice with the food.
I’ve been eating Fletcher’s corny dogs for 40 years, he said.
