HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - With fans congregating for Marshall's season opener Thursday night, one woman decided to charge for parking on private property near the football stadium.
The only problem was that the private property didn't belong to the woman, police said.
The owner of the vacant parking lot called police near game-time to say the woman had charged about $5 each for about 20 cars.
"It was prime property," said Cabell County 911 supervisor Tony Clark. "It just wasn't hers."
When confronted, the unidentified woman took the nearly $100 she made and ran, Clark said.
Officers persuaded the owner not to have the cars towed because fans driving to see Marshall's win over William & Mary didn't know it was an illegal operation.
