Posted on: Wednesday, 21 January 2004, 06:00 CST

Two subway riders were taken to a hospital after they were bitten by a man on a train in Queens, police said Wednesday.

The victims were attacked aboard a Flushing-bound No. 7 train near the 61st Street-Woodside Station at about 5 p.m. Monday.

Authorities said Reynaldo Hidalgo, 71, was bitten on the left thumb, and his grandson, 18-year-old Jose Velez, was bitten on the cheek and chest.

They were taken to Bellevue Hospital, where Hidalgo underwent surgery and Velez had seven stitches on his cheek.

Ivan Rodriguez, 26, of Queens, was arraigned Tuesday on assault charges, according to the district attorney's office.
