School Touts Arm Wrestling As Remedy

Instead of fighting in the hallway, a Swedish school principal wants students to settle their differences with arm wrestling.
"The idea originally came from the students themselves last fall," John Rittenberg, principal of the Transtenskolan in Hallsberg, 124 miles southwest of Stockholm, told The Associated Press Tuesday. The school has more than 500 students in grades 7-9.
Rittenberg is a fan of the idea. On Monday, Sweden's three-time female arm wrestling champion Heidi Andersson spoke to the school's students and teachers about the sport. Afterward, she took on a few of the kids and the teachers, too.
"She was as strong as a bull," Rittenberg said.
The school has set up a pair of arm wrestling tables in the cafeteria, along with a list ranking the top student wrestlers.
"I believe there will be less aggression," he said.
