When officers from the Animal Rescue League of Boston received reports about an alligator in Jamaica Pond, they couldn't believe it.
Then they saw the 2-foot-long water creature swimming in Jamaica Pond on Thursday afternoon.
"He kept popping up," Lt. Alan Borgus told the Boston Herald.
Borgus and Danielle Genter, a native of Louisiana, caught the alligator after two hours of failed attempts.
Borgus told the Herald that "someone obviously dumped it here."
In Massachusetts, it is illegal to have alligators as pets without a license, Borgus said.
He did not say what would become of the alligator, but he did say it wouldn't be put down.
