ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - No wonder they're losing sleep in Seattle. Albuquerque's giving 'em grounds for concern.
According to the Long Beach, Calif.-based Specialty Coffee Association of America, Albuquerque has more coffee shops per capita than even Seattle, birthplace of Starbucks coffee shops.
Seattle has more coffee shops overall with 301 to Albuquerque's 283.
But the difference is in the population. Seattle's population is larger, 563,400 according to the 2000 Census. Albuquerque's 2000 population was 448,600.
The Specialty Coffee Association of America compiled the list based on information from the Internet reference service ReferenceUSA.
The other Top 10 cities for coffee shops per capita are Portland, Ore.; Anchorage, Alaska; Minneapolis; San Francisco; Cleveland; St. Paul, Minn.; Sacramento, Calif.; and Pittsburgh.
