Trump's Flag Inspired Florida Measure

Florida State Rep. Nick Thompson, R-Fort Myers, says his proposed law to protect the right to fly the U.S. flag was inspired by real estate mogul Donald Trump.
Thompson told the Palm Beach (Fla.) Post that he was inspired to create the bill after seeing Trump argue on a cable talk show over his right to display a huge U.S. flag at his Palm Beach club, Mar-a-Lago. Palm Beach restricts the size of flag displays and Trump has racked up $80,000 in fines.
It just occurred to me that citizens in Florida really shouldn't have to pay a fee to fly the American flag, Thompson said. It's just kind of common sense.
His proposal, known as the Florida Flies the Flag Act, could eliminate fees or regulations on the display of the U.S. flag.
The paper said that Trump, who has taken his Palm Beach fight into court with a $25 million lawsuit, has applauded the 41-year-old representative's political efforts.
I think the bill is a terrific one, especially in this time of war, Trump said. I don't know (Thompson), but he sounds like a really smart and patriotic young man.
