Democratic Fundraiser Target of Warrant
A California judge Wednesday issued an arrest warrant for Norman Hsu after the Democratic fundraiser missed a mandatory court appearance.
Once Hsu failed to show up for his San Mateo County Superior Court hearing Wednesday, his bail on a 15-year-old felony warrant was revoked and a new warrant was issued for his arrest, The San Francisco Chronicle reported.
Hsu turned himself over to authorities Friday to answer to felony grand theft charges he had been facing since 1991. After turning himself in, the 56-year-old was released from jail on $2 million bail — and was supposed to appear in court Wednesday to hand over his passport to authorities.
The fundraiser’s attorney, Jim Brosnahan, quickly attempted to downplay his client’s absence from the Redwood City courtroom.
It could be a mistake, somehow, on his part. It could be something else, Brosnahan said. We don’t know.
Hsu has been a regular contributor and fundraiser host for many top regional and national Democrats.
