Obama Bashes Clinton on Foreign Policy

Presidential hopeful Barack Obama is attacking Democratic rival Hillary Rodham Clinton’s foreign policy strategy in a bid to narrow her lead in the polls.

With the Iowa caucus less than three months away, the latest Des Moines Register poll showed Clinton, a New York senator, in the lead among likely caucus voters with 29 percent, followed by former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards at 23 percent and Obama, an Illinois senator, at 22 percent.

In response, Obama Friday launched a tougher phase of his campaign by attacking Clinton as having failed the public by leading the nation into a war with Iraq, the Chicago Tribune reported Saturday.

If he continues to attack Clinton in the weeks ahead, Obama threatens to erode his image as a positive campaigner and risks alienating his base, said Bruce Gronbeck, director of the University of Iowa Center for Media Studies and Political Culture.

It’s the positives that seem to bring most of his supporters, Gronbeck told the Register. I don’t think he could possibly sustain such an aggressive contrast over the next two months. They can’t afford to do that.
