Tommy Thompson Backs Rudy Giuliani

Former Wisconsin Gov. Tommy Thompson went back on the campaign trail to endorse Rudy Giuliani for the Republican presidential nomination.
During a visit Friday to Charleston, S.C., Thompson, himself a former contender for the GOP nomination, described the former New York City mayor as a candidate who can take on Hillary Clinton and win, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported.
While Thompson ended his own presidential campaign when he came in sixth in the Iowa straw poll, Steve Grubbs of Iowa, one of his top strategists, believe his backing can give Giuliani a boost in the region.
Tommy Thompson has credibility in the Midwest, and that's what Rudy Giuliani needs, Grubbs said.
Giuliani named Thompson a national co-chairman of his campaign.
Polls show Giuliani leading the Republican pack despite holding views on abortion, gay rights and gun control that do not match those of many in the party's base.
