Austin Disability Benefits Lawyer Hails U.S. House Recognition of Social Security Amendments Act Anniversary
The founder of the Bob Richardson Law Firm says securing the future of SSDI benefits is crucial for disabled workers as the House Ways and Means Committee recognizes the August 1956 passage of the bill that established the benefits program.

A ringing birthday greeting from the U.S. House of Representatives is a public call to secure the future of SSDI benefits, says Austin Social Security disability benefits lawyer Bob Richardson.
Richardson, founder of The Bob Richardson Law Firm and an experienced Texas Social Security disability benefits attorney, says has seen first-hand the vital role that SSDI benefits have played in people´s lives.
“It has literally been a life-saver for many of my clients,” he says. “Without SSDI, they would have had no hope. That´s why it is so important for disabled workers to understand their legal rights and options and to secure the future of this program.”
On August 1, 1956, President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed into law the Social Security Amendments Act, which created a system for payment of monthly Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits.
In commemoration of the event, U.S. House of Representative Ways and Means Chairman Dave Camp (R-MI) and Social Security Subcommittee Chairman Sam Johnson (R-TX) issued a statement in which they recognized that SSDI benefits serve as an “important safety net” for more than 10.8 million disabled workers while. The statement also noted that the program´s future funding faces challenges.
“The Committee´s Subcommittee on Social Security has held a series of hearings looking for possible solutions that both meet the needs of those with disabilities, and also protect the hard-earned taxpayer dollars supporting the program,” the Camp-Johnson statement said.
“Given the extraordinary changes in the workplace, and new thinking in treatment and rehabilitation that have developed over the last 56 years, this Committee will continue to work with all our colleagues so we can find solutions to strengthen the program for Americans with disabilities.”
Richardson agrees, saying that all Americans should stand together in protecting the future of SSDI. He says SSDI is no government handout or free ride because workers pay into the system — sometimes for years — before becoming eligible for benefits.
“We fight for our clients and are privileged to help them obtain the benefits they deserve,” says Richardson, whose firm has offices in Austin and Waco and represents clients throughout the surrounding area. “We applaud our elected officials for their support of this important program.”
