Rehabmart.com, an online e-commerce company that sells rehabilitation and medical supplies, has recently joined into a distribution partnership with RiJe, Incorporated, to offer their revolutionary Dysphagia Cup to a larger consumer marketplace. Headquartered in Ontario, Canada, RiJe developed and patented this innovative technology for users with swallowing disorders, also known as dysphagia. This drinking aid additionally helps individuals with restricted head and neck movements, and can be useful for patients with Sjögren’s syndrome, myasthenia gravis, muscular dystrophy, cerebral palsy, ALS, Parkinson´s disease, recovery after stroke, and any other conditions that cause difficulty swallowing.

The RiJe Dysphagia Cup provides small swallows and drink controlled portions through a straw or from the rim of the cup. The user can preset portion sizes from 3ml to 15ml, ensuring accurate and consistent delivery every time with its built-in regulator. Easy to assemble, this special cup automatically dispenses the specified portion size every time it is stood up in its upright position. Once the portion is taken, the cup will deliver another portion within two to three seconds after the cup is placed in an upright position again. Suitable for both warm and cold drinks, this cup easily dispenses water-like or lightly thickened liquids, and holds up to 250ml of liquid.

Made of BPA-free polypropylene, this dishwasher-safe drinking cup features O-rings constructed from food-grade silicon. Large, ergonomic handles provide a safe and secure grip, while the artfully designed nose cut allows easy drinking without having to tilt the head back, a safer drinking position to avoid choking and aspiration.

“We are proud to introduce more consumers to this exciting and new Dysphagia Cup from RiJe,” said Hulet Smith, OTR/L, MBA and CEO of Rehabmart. “Considerable clinical research indicates that a large majority of people can take a volume of 5cc of thin liquid into the mouth at one time, and swallow it without difficulty. A pause should follow each swallow. While most dysphagia cups work this way with varying degrees of success, the RiJe cup differs in that it offers flexibility in the volume of liquid it can dispense. This capability allows users whose swallowing needs change to use just one cup for their progressing requirements. It can also be used with a straw, which most other dysphagia cups do not offer, controlling the portions/sips just as it does for users who prefer drinking from the rim of the cup.”
