Poll: Blacks Support Obama Over Clinton

Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton is widely supported by non-black women, but rival Barack Obama is supported by blacks, a U.S. poll indicates
African Americans' support of Obama is just as strong among women as it is among men, according to a Gallup Poll Daily tracking poll conducted Feb. 1-9.
A quarter of black men and 23 percent of black women say they support Clinton's bid for the Democratic presidential nomination, while about two-thirds of blacks plan to vote for Obama, the poll indicates.
White Democrats, meanwhile, are supporting Clinton over Obama.
Among white Democratic women, Clinton has a 28 point lead over Obama, 59 percent to 31 percent. Among white Democrat men, Clinton has a ten point lead over Obama, 50 percent to 40 percent.
Among Hispanic women, Clinton has a 37 point lead over Obama. She has a 17 point margin among Hispanic men.
It appears that blacks' uniformly high support for Obama is not because of an odious personal comparison between him and Hillary Clinton, but because of the greater appeal of his candidacy, perhaps because he could become the first black president in U.S. history, Gallup said in its analysis.
The poll of 3,820 Democrats and Democratic-leaning voters has a margin of error of plus or minus two percentage points.
