McCain Discusses Energy, Conservation Plan

John McCain says he will work with experts to design and implement energy policies that would efficiently oversee the United States' energy future.

His vision for U.S. economic security would wean the United States from foreign oil and enhance economic stability, national security and environmental protection, McCain told an audience in Houston.

Each one of these challenges demands our concentrated consideration, said the U.S. senator from Arizona who is the presumptive Republican presidential nominee. And each one requires that we look beyond the special interests that too often dominate energy policy. We need to draw on the best ideas of both parties, and work together for the common good.

McCain pushed for lifting the federal moratorium on allowing state and local governments to open their oil reserves on the outer continental shelf.

In oil, gas, and coal deposits, we have enormous energy reserves of our own, he said. And we are gaining the means to use these resources in cleaner, more responsible ways.

McCain pushed for technology to explore alternative fuel sources yet to be invented to help end dependence on foreign oil. He said the United states must shift our entire energy economy toward a sustainable mix of new and cleaner power sources, such as wind, solar and biofuels.
