Hispanics Go for Obama Almost 3-1

A poll indicates that Sen. Barack Obama leads Sen. John McCain 66 percent to 23 percent in the U.S. presidential race among registered Hispanic voters.
The Pew Hispanic Center surveyed 2,015 registered voters June 9-July 13.
U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., led Obama, D-Ill., by about a 2-1 ratio among Hispanics in the primaries and some analysts speculated that Hispanics were unlikely to vote for a black candidate. But only 11 percent of those surveyed by Pew said that Hispanics would reject Obama because of his race, 32 percent said they would be more likely to vote for him because he is black and 53 percent said his race was not a factor.
The poll also found that the Republican Party has lost all the gains it made among Hispanic voters. Almost two-thirds, 65 percent, said they identify with or lean to the Democrats and 26 percent the Republicans.
