U.S. Democratic convention to highlight unity

WASHINGTON, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) — The Aug. 25-28 U.S. Democratic National Convention Committee, or DNC, will highlight unity as the central message as organizers unveiled the four nightly themes of the event Monday.

Kansas Governor and DNC co-chair Kathleen Sebelius told reporters that the convention is being termed “America’s Town Hall ” which means any individual can submit questions by e-mail or Web video.

Those questions may be answered by one of the convention’s speakers.

On Aug. 25, Michelle Obama, wife of Democratic presumptive presidential nominee Barack Obama, will kick-start the convention at the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado with a “One Nation” speech emphasizing unity.

The agenda of Aug. 26 is “Renewing America’s Promise,” which will feature Senator Hillary Clinton, Obama’s former rival in the presidential nomination contest.

On Aug. 27, Obama’s vice presidential pick will deliver his or her acceptance speech — and former President Bill Clinton will address the gathering — as the focus turns to “Securing America’s Future,” and a salute to the nation’s veterans.

On Aug. 28, Obama will officially accept his party’s nomination in front of more than 60,000 spectators at Invesco Field at Mile High.

The familiar theme: his campaign slogan, “Change You Can Believe In.”

Four years ago, Obama, then a relatively unknown candidate for a U.S. Senate seat, was catapulted into the limelight when he delivered the keynote address at that year’s Democratic National Convention in Boston, Mass.
