Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin will be a "spectacular" running mate, Sen. John McCain says, asserting she has the credentials to be the No. 2 candidate.
In an interview with ABC News, McCain cited her command of the state's National Guard, her grasp of energy issues and the proximity of her state to Russia.
McCain and Palin are in St. Paul, Minn., awaiting to be nominated to the top spots on the party ticket during the Republican National Convention.
McCain, awaiting to accept his party's presidential nomination, questioned Democratic nominee Barack Obama's judgment, saying Palin was better qualified to be president, ABC said.
However, McCain said, "I admire and respect Senator Obama ... he loves his country."
"I'm the luckiest guy you'll ever interview," he said, adding sometimes "I open my eyes and stare in
wonderment."
