Trinity Consultants to Present Webinar on Costly Utility Regulation
The regulation, known as Utility MACT, is expected to cost an estimated $10.9 billion annually for the industry to comply.
Dallas, TX (PRWEB) August 19, 2011
Trinity Consultants, an environmental consulting firm that specializes in industrial air quality issues, will present a webinar on September 14, 2011, from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. CDT, that describes the regulatory requirements in the recently proposed National Emission Standard for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP) for the Electric Utility sector (known as the Utility MACT). The rule, which was proposed by the U.S. EPA on May 3, 2011, is expected to be the most expensive regulation of its type in U.S. history, at an estimated annual cost of $10.9 billion for the industry to comply.
The webinar is intended to inform environmental and operations staff at coal- and oil-fired electrical generating units (EGUs) about anticipated impacts to their facilities, including:
- Emissions limits for specific boilers and fuel types
- Required work practices for certain units
- Emissions monitoring, fuel testing, and stack testing requirements, including current challenges to the proposed requirements
- Reporting requirements
- How the rule relates to others impacting the electric utility sector including the industrial Boiler MACT rule
The presenter is Kasi Dubbs, P.E., a senior consultant in Trinity’s Kansas City office. Ms. Dubbs advises electricity generating companies on a wide range of air quality regulatory issues affecting their operations, including NESHAPs, air permitting requirements, and ongoing compliance management. Ms. Dubbs has detailed knowledge of the upcoming regulatory challenges facing the utility sector, not the least of which is the proposed NESHAP.
“The electric utility industry is understandably concerned and confused regarding this landmark regulation which will have significant operational and financial impacts on many facilities,” Ms. Dubbs said. “This presentation is intended to explain the requirements and help operators plan an effective response strategy.”
