Fletcher Brings Republican Party's Culture of Corruption to Kentucky

Posted on: Tuesday, 30 August 2005, 18:00 CDT

WASHINGTON, Aug. 30 /U.S. Newswire/ -- Kentucky Governor Ernie Fletcher yesterday became the latest Republican elected official caught up in the Republican Party's culture of corruption. Yesterday, Fletcher preemptively pardoned nine current and former members of his administration who have been indicted as part of an investigation into whether state civil service workers were illegally hired, fired, transferred, promoted or demoted based on their political affiliation.

Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean today issued the following statement:

"In a page ripped right out of the playbook used by President Bush and the Republicans in Washington, Governor Fletcher has brought the Republican Party's culture of corruption to Kentucky. When law enforcement and whistleblowers threaten their corrupt allies, they change the rules of the game. The voters of the Bluegrass State, like those in Ohio, Texas, California and other states caught up in the Republicans' culture of corruption, deserve better. They deserve leaders who are committed to promoting ethics and responsible government."
