U.S. President George Bush Wednesday praised the United Nations on the 60th anniversary of its establishment, saying it is a repository of noble ideals.

Addressing the world body, Bush noted the world is a more compassionate and hopeful place when we act together.

This truth was the inspiration for the United Nations, he said, citing the great and honorable goals in the charter drafted six decades ago. … We remain committed to those noble ideals.

Bush said though no nation can remain isolated, the United Nations must work to earn the world’s respect.

Peace is the responsibility of every nation in every generation, Bush said. Some challenges are the acts of nature; others are the work of man. … With courage and conscience we will meet our responsibilities.
